Root Zone Aeration

Many urban trees are growing in poor soil conditions.  Construction and poor planting techniques create compacted soils, greatly reducing the roots’ ability to absorb oxygen.  This compaction also reduces beneficial microrganism populations.

At H&H we use an Air Spade be break up the compacted soil, returning large pore spaces to the soil and inviting the beneficial mirorganisms that thrive in aerated soil.  The Air Spade allows us to:

  1. Clear out the soil around the roots without damaging the roots.
  2. Replace old soil with compost to improve the biology of the soil.
